Risking (and Losing) Everything, and Gaining Christ

32 "Never since the world began has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind. 33 If this man were not from God, He could do nothing." 34 They answered him, "You were born in utter sin, and would you teach us?" And they cast him out.

35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him He said, Do you believe in the Son of Man?” (John 9:32-35 ESV)

The parents of the healed man had been afraid of being cast out of the synagogue if they gave a positive testimony concerning Jesus. (See John 9:22.) The healed man, having been born blind, was not so accustomed to the comforts of polite society, and he spoke boldly, not stymied by fear of losing new-found prospects. The healed man risked–and lost–all of his potential societal standing, but what did he gain? Jesus Himself compassionately sought out the healed man and found him.
